EYE THERAPY:

Ayurveda employs eye drops and eye salves for prevention and healing eye diseases like bleeding, itching, tearing, burning sensation and redness.

It's that therapy which involves washing the eyes with medicated oils or ghee by constructing dough around the eyes.

Procedure:

Dough is prepared using black gram flour and water (2:1) around the eyes from the bridge of the nose to the tip of the eyebrows. The dough should be 1 ½ inch height. One half of lukewarm ghee is kept warm nearby and then poured into the dough to a level where the eye lashes are immersed. Then the patient is asked to open the eyes slowly. After allowing the medicine to remain inside the walls for sufficient time, a hole is made in the lateral sides of the dough to allow the medicines to flow into a vessel. Then the walls are removed, eyelids are wiped properly and face is washed with lukewarm water.

Indications:

Relieves tension in the eye sockets that may lead to loss of vision, pain, fatigue, glaucoma, cross eye, Conjunctivitis, Night blindness, Corneal inflammation, Sunken eyes and other eye disorders.

ASCHOTANAM: Eye drops

Application of medications into the eye in the form of drops is called as Aschotanam.

Procedure:

In this procedure, the person lies on a bed in a suitable room. Their eyes are opened with the therapist's left hand, while the liquid is dropped in the eye with the right hand. 10-12 drops are placed in the eye from a distance of 2 finger widths from the inner angle of the eye. A soft, clean cloth is placed over the eyes for a few minutes.

ANJANAM: Eye Salve

Application of medications over the eyelids is called as Anjanam.

Procedure:

This procedure is usually used after a person has undergone panchakarma, and the illness is confined only in the eyes, when diseases are matured, such as in oedema, severe itching, sliminess, and thick excretions etc. In this procedure, patient is made to lie comfortably and then the medication in the form of salve is applied over the patient's eye lid. Finally eye balls are gently and briefly rubbed and slowly rotated up. The eyelids are also gently massaged to spread the salve throughout the eye. Persons are strongly advised to rest in a darkened room for atleast 1hr before exposure to light and activity.
